Steam passes 700 releases in a single week for the first time
720 games launched on Steam in the last week of August — the first 700-plus week ever recorded — and 74% of them have fewer than ten reviews.
Steam crossed a line last week that nobody was in a hurry to reach: 720 games launched on the platform between 24 and 30 August, the first time a single week has passed 700, according to tracking by ICO Partners chief executive Thomas Bidaux — who noted the record arrived "a month earlier than expected". That is roughly 102 releases a day, about four every hour.
The distribution underneath the record is the part worth sitting with. Of those 720 launches, 530 have between zero and nine reviews. 190 reached ten or more, 95 passed fifty, 62 passed a hundred, and ten passed a thousand. Nearly three-quarters of a record-setting week arrived to something close to silence.
The wider numbers point the same way. Steam saw around 12,000 releases in the first half of 2026, up 19% on last year, against $11.1 billion in platform revenue for the period. Of the 20,000 games released in 2025, only about 3% ever reached a hundred concurrent players.
For a small team the practical reading is not "avoid Steam" — the money is plainly there. It is that a store page stopped being a discovery plan some time ago. In a 102-release day, the wishlist campaign, the demo in a festival, and the creator outreach are not marketing extras bolted on at the end; they are part of the build, scheduled like features. The games that clear ten reviews in week one mostly decided to months earlier.
